A Bowdoin College graduate who holds BA in English and economics, Druckenmiller dropped out of his three-year PhD program at the University of Michigan in order to start his career as a management trainee at Pittsburgh National Bank in 1977. After one year, he became Head of the equity research of the bank, and in 1981, Druckenmiller launched his own firm Duquesne Capital Management. Seven years later, he was hired by George Soros, as the lead manager for Quantum Fund. But after taking huge losses in technology shares, he left Soros in 2000. He went on to run his own firm until 2010, when he closed his $12-billion-worth fund, because he was unable to give high profits to the clients.
